Our Mission is: TO ASSIST THE US FOREST SERVICE IN THE PRESERVATION,
PROTECTION, IMPROVEMENT AND PUBLIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE WILDERNESS AREAS
IN GRAND COUNTY.
The cost will be $10 a person; this includes 3 nights of camping and admission into the park. 20 people will be the break even point. If we do not get 20 people we will have to add on a dollar or 2 per person to make up the difference. If we have more then 20 the extra money will be a donation to GCWG. There are showers available for our use in the main campground.
There is room for a couple of campers, and another option for the non-campers is that the park has some cabins. You would have to make your own reservations for the cabins.
Kodachrome is about 570 miles from Fraser, and AAA says about 9:30 hours. This is over Berthoud Pass and via route 89 in Utah. There is a shorter and more scenic way in Utah that is about 540 miles but AAA says that is about 10 hours.
We are calling this an exploratory trip, as none of us are very familiar with the area. Toni and I have spent a day in Kodachrome, and done a day hike there. The plan is to hike one day in Kodachrome and the second day there are a number of choices near the town of Escalante. Each day will have options for either shorter or longer hikes.
We will be doing the meals the usual way, with 2 or 3 couples responsible for each meal.
Trip cost is $10 per person.
